Jazz Chisholm Jr. blasted two homers and drove in five, then the Bronx nearly turned into a scrum before the Pirates could even finish licking their wounds.

The Pirates came into the Bronx clean and sharp early, flashing some real leather up the middle in the first inning before things went sideways in a hurry. It felt like a series-defining night from the jump, and that's before anyone knew how weird it would actually get.

Pittsburgh committed a pair of errors behind starter Braxton Ashcraft, and Jazz Chisholm Jr. made them pay immediately, lifting a three-run shot into the seats to put the Yankees up 4-0. The Pirates defense that looked so good an inning earlier turned into the punchline of the night, and Barstool Baseball couldn't resist twisting the knife.

Stellar defense from the Pirates!

Chisholm wasn't done. He came back for a second homer, a two-run shot off an Ashcraft slider that barely stayed fair, giving him his 10th career multi-homer game and finishing the night with two bombs, five RBI and 16 home runs on the season. The Yankees eventually won 8-5, needing a strong bullpen to bail out starter Ryan Weathers after he coughed up Pittsburgh's early comeback attempt.

Teammates Rafael Flores and Bryan Reynolds had to physically hold Santana back before order was restored — no punches thrown, nobody ejected, but the tension had clearly been building.

It capped a rough all-around night for Pittsburgh, whose defensive miscues opened the door for New York's offense in the first place. Fans were quick to pile on a brutal-looking Bryan Reynolds throw as further evidence of how sloppy the Pirates looked at the worst possible time.

For the Yankees, this is exactly the kind of win they need with the deadline approaching and both the Red Sox and Rays also picking up wins the same night. Chisholm playing loose and mashing while the bullpen cleans up after a shaky start is a formula New York will take every night of the week — benches-clearing chaos and all.
