Jon Gruden: Jordan Love, Jared Goff too low on MVP board

TLDR: Jon Gruden says Jordan Love and Jared Goff are way too low on the DraftKings MVP board at +3500 each, and the two meet Sunday when the 4-2 Packers visit the 3-2 Lions.

Coach Gruden took his whiteboard to a DraftKings-sponsored segment and spent it on the 2 quarterbacks playing in Detroit Sunday.

Jordan Love and Jared Goff are WAY TOO LOW on the MVP leaderboard! @DKSports #DKPartner

It's a paid DraftKings spot, so take the hype with a grain of salt. But Gruden isn't making up the numbers. Going into Week 7, DraftKings had Love and Goff both at +3500 to win MVP, with Josh Allen still on top. That's a lot of daylight for 2 guys running 2 of the best offenses in the NFC.

Goff's case is pretty simple. He's carrying a 111.3 passer rating and hasn't thrown an interception all season, and Detroit is putting up more than 30 points a game with Amon-Ra St. Brown, Jameson Williams and Sam LaPorta catching passes and Jahmyr Gibbs piling up yards. Love's case is a little louder. He's already thrown for 300-plus yards 3 times this year, and Green Bay put up 54 points over its last 2 games even without much help from the run game.

Sunday is where one of those cases takes a hit. Goff's clean sheet runs into a Packers defense with a league-leading 9 interceptions. Love, who has been taking hits lately, gets a Lions front that leads the NFL with 20 sacks. Somebody's MVP price is moving Monday morning, one way or the other.

History says to bet on points. The last 3 Packers games in Detroit ended 29-22, 34-31 and 31-24. On Warren Sharp's Week 7 preview, one of the panelists said Matt LaFleur can't play scared in that building.

“I think the expectation is when you play the Lions in Detroit, you better come to score touchdowns.”

That's the game Gruden is selling: Dan Campbell vs. LaFleur, 2 quarterbacks who usually get treated as the NFC North's second tier behind the big names, and a division lead on the line. If either one throws for 4 scores in a shootout, +3500 is going to look like a gift. If Goff finally throws a pick to that Green Bay secondary or Love spends the afternoon on his back, the price Gruden is yelling about will make sense real fast.
