CDL 2027 adds 7 Pro-Ams, opening doors for Telluride Bush

TLDR: The Call of Duty League is going from 2 Pro-Am tournaments in 2026 to 7 in 2027, Major II at DreamHack Birmingham among them, and that gives Telluride Bush and the Challengers scene real shots at the pros.
The 2027 announcement came out of the CDL on Wednesday, and the Telluride Bush camp read it the way any Challengers team would: as a set of new doors.
Big changes involving Challengers and Pro-Ams! 7 Pro Am Tournaments compared to 2 in 2026 - Including Major II DreamHack Birmingham @dtsay56 mentions EVERY Major will be an Open 👀 Lots of opportunities for all eyes on @tBushGaming #Unshaven🌳
Here's why that matters. Under the old setup, a Challengers team could go a whole year with only 2 Pro-Am events where it had any chance of ending up on the same stage as a franchised CDL roster. Now there are 7 of them. The Majors are the bigger news. According to the update, dtsay56 said EVERY Major will be an Open, which would put the league's biggest events within reach of teams without a franchise slot. That's a claim made on the broadcast, so treat it as the plan until the full rulebook drops.
The schedule is already taking shape. Per The Esports Radar's rundown, the season starts December 4, 2026 on Modern Warfare 4 with an online Pro-Am Kickoff Classic. Major II is April 2-4, 2027 in Birmingham with DreamHack and runs as a LAN Pro-Am. Major III goes to Toronto, and OpTic Texas hosts Championship Weekend in July. Breaking Point's sources earlier reported Challengers integration and more tournaments overall, and the official rollout goes well past what they described.
The reaction from the team account was about as positive as it gets, with one catch.
HUGE W besides @dtsay56 stepping down 🥲
That catch is dtsay56, the same guy who walked everyone through the format changes, and the tweet says he's stepping down. The post doesn't say from what or when he leaves. Still, the voice of the announcement that Challengers fans have been waiting years to hear turned out to be on his way out, and that's a bittersweet thing to pull off in one sitting.
An hour later the team went live to go through the whole thing: the format overhaul and the Major locations, including which stops a Challengers roster could actually reach.
Next up is the details: how qualifying for each Open works, how many Challengers spots each Pro-Am offers, and whether the online events count the same as the LANs. If dtsay56's line about every Major being an Open holds up, Birmingham in April is the date to circle. That's when a Challengers roster like Telluride Bush could stop talking about getting a shot and actually walk into a room with the pros.
