Jack Kennedy, Kelly Keegs split over Shane Gillis SNL

Gillis hosted SNL on October 10 for the 3rd time. By Sunday night Dan Levy had posted an Instagram reel tearing into the monologue. By Tuesday afternoon Kenjac had seen enough of it.
Smug, contemptuous reactions like this are exactly why Shane Gillis is as big as he is
Here's what set it off. In his 7-minute stand-up opener, Gillis did a bit about going back to public gyms in New York and said he "didn't know women just dress like whores now." Levy's answer: "Women wearing short shorts at the gym does not make them whores. It makes the men calling them whores misogynists." He said he was "speechless" that the joke made it onto live national television, and Reese Witherspoon, Elizabeth Banks and Jessica Alba were among the names who backed him. That's the reaction Kennedy calls smug and contemptuous. To be clear, that's his read on it, not a neutral description.
Kennedy followed up about 90 minutes later. He wasn't defending the joke. He was making a strategy argument aimed at everyone who wants Gillis gone.
Anyone who believes he sucks and/or is not funny should just ignore him into irrelevancy. Policing behavior with this hall monitor attitude is an accelerant to the fire they want to put out.
Gillis's whole career backs up the accelerant theory. SNL hired him in 2019 and fired him days later over old podcast jokes before he ever appeared on the show. He didn't go away. He came back to host 3 times. Every round of outrage has ended with him bigger than before, and Kennedy's point is that the outrage is part of the reason.
Kelly Keegs posted 6 minutes after Kennedy's follow-up, and she came at it from the other side. She isn't arguing about whether Gillis is funny. She's talking about what lands in her mentions, and she puts that on him.
Guys feel comfortable sending replies like this bc of Shane Gillis btw
That's the whole fight in 2 tweets from inside the same building. Kennedy thinks the hall monitors are feeding Gillis. Keegs thinks Gillis is feeding the guys in her replies. Both can be true at once, and that's exactly why this one won't die quietly. If the past 7 years tell you anything, Gillis's ticket sales won't take a hit from this week, and the argument over who's responsible for what happens downstream of the monologue is only getting louder.
