Jordyn Tyson's Hamstring Flares Up Again Ahead of Saints Preseason Opener

Saints rookie Jordyn Tyson left practice early Thursday with a re-aggravated hamstring, putting his status for Saturday's preseason opener vs. the Jaguars in doubt.

Jordyn Tyson was drawing raves during joint work with the Jaguars, then walked off with a trainer. Mike Triplett was first to note the rookie receiver's exit, and the timing stings given how good camp had been going for him.

A few hours later, Adam Schefter confirmed the injury through Kat_Terrell's reporting, and by that point it was clear this wasn't just a precaution. Tyson has a hamstring history — he missed 3 regular-season games last year at Arizona State with the same issue, on his way to 61 catches, 711 yards and 8 touchdowns. That track record is exactly why a rookie who was the Saints' 8th overall pick this spring is getting a second look at his lower-body durability before he's played a single preseason snap.

Nick Underhill's follow-up framed it as "not super serious but obviously less than ideal," which is about as measured as beat-writer language gets. Translation: the Saints aren't panicking, but they're not thrilled either, especially with Saturday's preseason opener against Jacksonville right around the corner and Tyson's availability now a real question.

It's not an isolated story around the league right now, either. Hamstrings are having a moment across the NFL, with Rams wideout Puka Nacua nursing a groin issue and Panthers back Chuba Hubbard already ruled week-to-week with his own hamstring problem. SleeperNFL summed up the vibe with a string of nauseated emojis, and fantasy managers everywhere felt that in their bones.

For the Saints, the stakes are more than fantasy points. Tyson was billed as a plug-and-play weapon opposite an unsettled receiver room, and a top-10 pick missing camp reps is never nothing. Kellen Moore is expected to give an update on Tyson's status, and how the team handles this — a cautious scratch from Saturday's opener vs. a quicker return — will say a lot about how seriously they're taking a hamstring that's already bitten him once before.
