Steven Cheah's Wrigley Field Bit Reaches Peak Insanity

Steven Cheah went from diving-catch hero to literally eating Wrigley Field, tongue out on camera, all in one afternoon.

Every ballpark has its legends. Wrigley Field just got a new one, and it has nothing to do with a walk-off homer or a no-hitter. It's Steven Cheah, apparently overcome by the sheer romance of the Friendly Confines, deciding the appropriate response to a good day at the yard was to put actual dirt from the field in his mouth on camera.

The day allegedly started with heroics. Cheah's crew was hyping up a diving grab out on the field, with the ball itself getting the full Hall of Fame treatment. Nobody's showing tape of the catch, but the mythology was already writing itself before the sun went down.

The souvenir from Cheah's alleged grab got the Cooperstown treatment.

Then things got weird. What started as a guy admiring the grounds at one of baseball's cathedrals turned into a full bit, and Cheah himself tipped his hand on where it was headed.

Cheah previewed the stunt hours before he actually went through with it.

“I’m open to ingesting some Wrigley today” -Steven Cheah

"I'm open to ingesting some Wrigley today" is one of those lines that reads like a joke until you realize the guy means it literally. Wrigley Field opened in 1914, making it the second-oldest ballpark in Major League Baseball behind Fenway Park, and it's been the site of exactly zero known incidents of fans licking the infield. Until now.

Cheah followed through. Standing on the concourse in a Seiya Suzuki tee, he examined a small handful of something scooped off the field, looked dead into the camera, and stuck his tongue out like a man who just completed a personal quest.

The reaction footage backed it up from a different angle, framing the whole thing as a mission accomplished. Whatever was in his hand, sunflower seeds, dirt, some combination of ballpark debris, he committed to the bit fully, right down to the closeup of the tongue.

There's a version of this story where Cheah is just doing bit-work, the kind of unhinged content escalation Barstool personalities have been doing since the company's inception. Admire the field, then love the field, then, eventually, taste the field. It's a three-act structure. But there's also a version where a grown man just ate stadium dirt for the algorithm, and both of those things can be true at once.

Whether Wrigley's grounds crew has any comment on a fan sampling the infield is unknown, and probably better left that way. What's clear is that Cheah has fully committed to the Wrigley bit as a running series, and if the escalation pattern holds, the next installment should be genuinely alarming.
