Tommy Smokes salutes Robbie Fox, 10 years after interning

TLDR: Tommy Smokes marked almost exactly 10 years since a group of teenage hopefuls walked into the Barstool office chasing an internship, and he used the moment to congratulate Robbie Fox: "10 years later it all worked out."

No long thread and no speech. Just a photo, a date that means something to a handful of people, and a shoutout to one of his own.

Almost exactly 10 years ago we all walked in to the Barstool office as teenagers hoping for our dream internship. 10 years later it all worked out. Congrats @RobbieBarstool

The tweet doesn't say what the congrats is for, and we're not going to guess. The milestone that's actually written down is the 10 years. That class of interns is basically the backbone of modern Barstool, and every name in it gets ribbed for being a kid who never left. Here's one of them saying, flatly, that it worked.

The dates hold up. Tommy wrote a blog in 2021 for the 5-year mark, saying he, Frankie and Glenny had their intern interviews with Dave Portnoy and Gaz on September 16, 2016, shortly after Barstool moved to New York City. In that same blog he said Robbie, Ria and Hubbs started not long after, which puts Robbie's anniversary right about now. Tommy's Barstool bio says he started as a social media intern in 2016 and went full-time in 2018.

Look at where they all are now. Frankie became Dave's right-hand man. Tommy has won Surviving Barstool, Barstool's Most Dangerous Gameshow and The Dozen trivia tournament. Robbie hosts My Mom's Basement and plays guitar in Pup Punk, the company's house band. For a group of interns, that's a lot of the company's lineup.

The replies pulled in the rest of the old crew. Frankie Borrelli, Ria and Glenny were all tagged in the thread, and Stu Feiner showed up a few hours later the way only Stu can, in all caps, with 2 words and zero explanation.

@TomScibelli @RobbieBarstool @FrankieBorrelli @BarstoolRia @Glenny_balls WOULD EVERYONE.

Whatever Stu meant, the point stands. Barstool loves a homegrown story, and this one is about 10 years old. A group that once got coached on how to get through a Portnoy interview is now the group handing out congrats. Keep an eye on Robbie's own feed and his My Mom's Basement episodes if you want to hear the rest of it in his words.
