Will Campbell knee sprain adds to Patriots injury pile

TLDR: Patriots left tackle Will Campbell is believed to have a knee sprain and will likely miss time, with an MRI Monday, after the 45-17 win over the Raiders also cost them TreVeyon Henderson.

The scoreboard said blowout. The injury report says the Patriots paid for it. 2 young starters left the Raiders game and neither came back.

Campbell went down in the 2nd quarter when somebody landed on his right leg during a 4-yard Rhamondre Stevenson run, according to ESPN. He was ruled out midway through the 3rd, and Caleb Lomu finished the game at left tackle. The one good sign that night was Morgan Moses saying he felt better after seeing Campbell in good spirits and walking out of the stadium on his own.

A few hours later the walking-out-of-the-stadium vibes got a reality check.

Knee sprain, MRI Monday, likely to miss some time. That's the best case on the menu, but it's still a problem. Campbell is the guy New England drafted to protect the blind side for the next decade, and this isn't new territory for him. He reportedly had an MCL sprain in late November 2025, his rookie year, and that one had people talking about injured reserve. Whatever the MRI shows, nobody's going to be calm about a 2nd knee scare in under a year.

Henderson's day ended earlier. ESPN says he hurt his ankle at the end of an 11-yard run early in the 2nd quarter, when safety Jeremy Chinn brought him down along the sideline. He came in 2nd on the team with 141 rushing yards on 38 carries. Corey Kiner picked up the slack with 52 yards on 6 carries, but he also lost a fumble, so the backup running back situation isn't exactly reassuring.

Then there's the bigger picture. ESPN counts 19 Patriots on injured reserve already this season, more than the 17 they had all of last year, and it isn't even mid-October. At 3-2 they're fine in the standings, but the roster keeps getting thinner every week.

Next up is Monday's MRI, followed by the Jets (2-3) at home next Sunday. If Campbell is out, Lomu is probably the guy at left tackle. If Henderson's ankle keeps him out too, Stevenson gets the whole backfield. Week 5 was a fun win, and the next few days decide how much it actually cost.
