Katic defends Indiana on Barstool College Football Show

TLDR: Barstool College Football Show Week 6 premiered Thursday night, with Katic sticking up for Indiana's schedule, Kayce Smith needling BFW, Portnoy admitting he's worse than Brandon and Dave calling Northwestern a contender.

The episode went up Thursday night under the banner of Indiana's strength of schedule. Before anyone got to the Hoosiers, though, the desk spent some time on who had been wrong and how badly.

“I just wanna know, are you feeling as happy as you could be knowing how bad you lost?” -Kaycee to BFW

It's a perfect question because no answer to it works. Say yes and you're delusional. Say no and you're admitting it. The show never says exactly what the loss was, but the fact that the desk is still bringing it up tells you plenty.

Then Portnoy turned the knife on himself. Earlier in the week, on Wake Up Barstool, he declared Michigan's season over after the Wolverines lost to Iowa, which is pretty rough for a guy who spent September telling everyone Michigan could beat anybody. On the show he took a different angle: sure, he got Michigan wrong, but at least he had reasons. Brandon, in his telling, had nothing.

The best stretch of the night was Dave's Contender pick. Northwestern opened the new Ryan Field on Oct. 2 by beating Penn State 34-13, running for 413 yards and handing Matt Campbell's Nittany Lions their second straight loss. That win is easier to enjoy if you remember what was said on this same set 2 weeks earlier, when Big Cat's Contender was Penn State.

“Penn State, if you look at their schedule, they're not gonna lose another game. They are gonna run the table.” – Big Cat

That aged fast. In Week 6 Dave said the Northwestern result was no fluke. He brought up the earlier road loss, gave coach David Braun his credit, and checked the Contender box.

Northwestern pummeled Penn State and Dave doesn't think it was a fluke. His @highnoonsunsips Contender: Northwestern Wildcats

That brings it back to Indiana and the label Katic is sick of hearing. A soft schedule is a fair knock until you notice that Northwestern, the team that just ran over Penn State, is one of the teams on it. So Katic went after the narrative and gave his GOAT of the Week to Turbo Richard, the Boston College transfer he calls an absolute wagon.

Katic is tired hearing about Indiana's "soft schedule" Turbo Richard is an "absolute wagon" and his @Reeses GOAT of the Week

There's a real argument behind Katic's case. Richard ran for 383 yards and 4 touchdowns in Indiana's first 4 games before he left the Northwestern game with a lower-leg injury, and Curt Cignetti called it really good news when it turned out to be day-to-day. If Northwestern keeps playing like a contender, Indiana's schedule gets harder after the fact, and Katic gets to say he called it.
